Repost: poetry dot com is a scam

July 25, 2006

This is why.
Say this were a poem I submitted to the contest at poetry.com:

You have broken my heart into a million billion pieces
I f&*king hate you so much and i f(*king love you anyway
You are stupid and bad and evil
you are like the devil
In a black & red furnace eating my heart
I hate you but I love you anyway
Your a Bastard for cheating on me but still
I love you but I still hate you even though your bad
Their was no reisen 4 u to do this to me
I was the best to u
I hate you but I love u
n e way

Poetry.com would then send me a letter:

Dear Bridget,
Thank you so much for your submission. I am pleased to let you know that you have been selected to be published in our monthly book. You don’t have to pay for this poem to be published in our book. If you would like to purchase the book, however, please send a check for 49.95. All poems published in the book will be considered for the $10,000 grand prize.
Sincerely,
poetry.com

And there’s your scam.
